Cruiser fans looking for classic styling, an incredibly low seat height and a readily affordable price can find it all in the Shadow VLX and VLX Deluxe.
First introduced in 1988 and produced until 2007 the Shadow VLX 600 is a great all around entry level bike boasting big bike features, a low seat height, innovative symmetric cosmetics and flowing lines that all motorycle cruisers came to emulate. This comfortable and easy to ride midsized cruiser is not too big and not too small making it a great choice for beginners and experieinced riders. Perfect for the city with lots of acceleration and zip but still capable of freeway riding despite its smaller sized V- twin engine.
The VLX 600 has proven to be incredibly reliable but better yet fully customizable making it a revolutionary member of the Honda Shadow line of motorcycles. The VLX 600 has seen a handful of changes over the years some big, some small. As seen listed above, there have been three model designations used o er the VLX's lifetime but primarily there is the Standard VLX and the VLX Deluxe model. Specific years marked the changes to each generation of the VLX 600 including the switch from dual 34mm carburetors to a single 34mm carburetor in 1999. In the United States all VLX models differ from the other Honda Shadow line in that it utilizes a 4 speed transmission and a hidden single shock "soft-tail" style rear suspension. European VLX models have a 5 speed transmission but theu have the same top gear as the U.S. model 4 speed so not much was gained from the 5 gears, the additional gear was created by splitting one of the middle gears into two, most likely 3rd gear. Asian models are referred to as the “Steed” and offer a VLS with a Springer front end.
